Aim:
The course provides students with fundamentals in cognitive processes and interactive computer systems as well as principles, methods and tools for developing human-centered computer systems. After the course students will be able to:
  • explain the relevance of perception, memory and language usage to interactive systems.
  • describe and discuss the various stages in the implementation of interactive systems.
  • discuss human-human communication and computer-mediated communication.


Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Java programming. Internet technology.

Supplementary courses:
Computer models of cognitive processes.

Organisation:
Lectures, programming assignments, oral presentation, group programming project and home assignment.

Course contents:
Cognitive psychology. User models. Guidelines for interface design. Evaluation methods for usability.
