TDTS01 Computer Aided Design of Electronics, 6 ECTS credits.
/Datorstödd elektronikkonstruktion/

For:   COS   D   IT   SOC   Y

Prel. scheduled hours: 56
Rec. self-study hours: 104

  Area of Education: Technology

Main field of studies: Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering

  Advancement level (G1, G2, A): A

Aim:
The aim of the course is to present system-level design methods for the development of digital systems and the basic principle of modern CAD tools. The students should learn the basic principles of computer-aided design, electronic system design at high levels of abstraction, synthesis and optimization methods, test and design for testability techniques, as well as the hardware description language VHDL and its use in the system design process.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Computer Hardware and Architecture. Programming.

Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.

Organisation:
The course is given as a series of lectures. Labs are organized around available CAD systems for the VHDL language.

Course contents:
Studies of hardware modelling and design based on the hardware description language VHDL and CAD tools used in the industry. Different abstraction levels for hardware description together with methods for efficient design of complex digital systems using hierarchical modelling techniques. Techniques for high-level synthesis of digital systems and optimization algorithms used in CAD tools. Testing of digital systems, design for testability and built-in self-test.
